چکیده

High morphological plasticity in populations of brine shrimp subjected to different environmental conditions, mainly salinity, hindered for centuries the identification taxonomic entities encompassed within Artemia . In addition, mismatch between molecular and evolution rates complicates characterization evolutionary lineages, generating problems. Here, we propose a phylogenetic hypothesis based on two new complete mitogenomes, determine levels congruence definition units using nuclear mtDNA data. We used fossil calibrate clock discuss divergence times genus. The proposed herein suggests more recent time frame lineage splitting than previously considered. Phylogeographic analyses were performed GenBank available mitochondrial markers. Evidence gen e flow, identified through discordances markers, was reconsider specific status some taxa. As result, consider be represented by five units: Southern Cone, Mediterranean—South African, New World, Western Asian, Eastern Asian Lineages. A nomenclatorial confusion in Tanymastigidae (Crustacea: Branchiopoda: Anostraca).

Brtek (1972) established the subfamily Tanymastiginae into Branchipodidae for the genus Tanymastix Simon, 1886 and his new genus Tanymastigites. Although the author did not explicitly designate a type genus, he created the subfamily name on the stem of the older genus that he included in his new subfamily. The name Tanymastix (in genitive singular, Tanymastigis: stem Tanymastigand desinence -is...

A new fairy shrimp Phallocryptus tserensodnomi (Branchiopoda: Anostraca) from Mongolia.

A new species of Phallocryptus Biraben 1951 (Branchiopoda, Anostraca) from Mongolia is described. Phallocryptus tserensodnomi sp. nov. is close to P. spinosa (Milne-Edwards 1840), but both morphological and molecular analyses (Cytochrome Oxidase I, COI) indicate that they represent separate species. Most relevant differential features of the new species include: (1) frontal appendage provided w...

Evolutionary Origin and Phylogeography of the Diploid Obligate Parthenogen Artemia parthenogenetica (Branchiopoda: Anostraca)

BACKGROUND Understanding the evolutionary origin and the phylogeographic patterns of asexual taxa can shed light on the origin and maintenance of sexual reproduction. We assessed the geographic origin, genetic diversity, and phylogeographic history of obligate parthenogen diploid Artemia parthenogenetica populations, a widespread halophilic crustacean. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS We analys...

Based on samples collected during surveys of Brazilian cave fauna, seven earwig species are reported: Cylindrogaster cavernicola Kamimura, sp. n., Cylindrogaster sp. 1, Cylindrogaster sp. 2, Euborellia janeirensis, Euborellia brasiliensis, Paralabellula dorsalis, and Doru luteipes, as well as four species identified to the (sub)family level. To date, C. cavernicola Kamimura, sp. n. has been rec...
